Apparently, Michigan is still collecting fancy, private golf clubs like they're Pokémon cards. Near Ann Arbor, some bright sparks are cooking up a new joint called the Frontier Club. Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, names you might vaguely recall if you spend too much time watching golf documentaries, are the masterminds behind the design. Because, honestly, what the world really needs is another spot where the obscenely wealthy can drain their bank accounts on 18 holes.
This whole shebang is slated to cost a cool $32 million. For that princely sum, you get 18 holes of pure, unadulterated fairway torture, a bonus 12-hole short course (because apparently 18 isn't enough of a challenge for these folks), a clubhouse that likely boasts more marble than a Roman emperor's bathroom, guest cottages for when your private jet needs a place to crash, and a whole maintenance facility. Because even paradise needs a decent John Deere.
Membership is being capped at a cozy 300. Most of them, we're reliably informed, will be jetting in from somewhere else. They’re calling it a "model" club, like that Kingsley Club place. I, however, call it a rich people's escape hatch, a place to avoid the riff-raff for a few days. Just try not to dwell on the 40 to 50 employees who’ll be earning minimum wage to buff your golf cart to a mirror shine.
The land itself is a fairly pleasant, rolling affair. Hanse, bless his architect heart, apparently "fell in love" with it. Go figure. Architects always "fall in love" with outrageously expensive plots of land. They're planning to move mountains of dirt, but also, you know, be "sustainable." Minimal water use, native plants – all the trendy buzzwords to make you feel good about another millionaire's sandbox.
They're aiming to break ground this fall and throw open the (very expensive) doors by April 2028. So, if you've got $32 million burning a hole in your pocket and a desperate, burning need for a new place to lament your slice, start clearing your calendar. Just a heads-up: this club won't magically fix your swing. But it will look absolutely fabulous when you inevitably yank it into the trees.
