So, it turns out those whispers about LIV Golf setting up shop in Michigan have evaporated faster than a perfectly struck drive into a strong headwind. Apparently, the grand team championship that was supposed to happen in Plymouth in two weeks? Yeah, it's been unceremoniously yanked. This is the second time this year LIV has pulled a disappearing act, the first being New Orleans. You have to admire the strategy: when in doubt, just don't show up.

It’s a bit like a philosophy professor trying to explain the meaning of life while having a full-blown existential crisis because they can’t find their car keys. We heard about a new big-money investor, which you’d think would make LIV feel flush enough to actually host an event. But apparently, that optimism didn't quite translate into booking the actual venue. And get this – there wasn't so much as a stray promotional banner at The Cardinal at Saint John's. It was so obvious, even my golf buddy Dave, who once spent three holes looking for a ball that had rolled into his pocket, would have noticed.

Still, the LIV Golf website, bless its optimistic little heart, kept selling tickets. Meanwhile, the TV listings are starting to tell the real story. It looks like the only action in Michigan this August will be the collective groan of golf fans who were hoping for something to watch. Add to that another local pro event packing its bags, and Michigan's golf scene is looking about as cheerful as a wet Tuesday on the back nine. It’s a good reminder that even the biggest ideas can sometimes just… fizzle out.
