Michael Brennan, looking like he’d just solved the riddle of the Sphinx while simultaneously choosing socks, surfed the Baycurrent currents right into a win. He led from the jump, which either means he’s got a psychic connection to the golf gods or he just really, really didn’t want to talk to anyone after the round. While the rest of us mere mortals were sweating about missing a three-footer, Brennan was probably just wondering if he left the gas on.
His final 68 was about as exciting as watching paint dry, but in a good way, like a really well-applied coat of paint. Keith Mitchell and Jacob Bridgeman, bless their hearts, tried to make a fuss, finishing just a shot back. You could almost hear the TV producers weeping into their headsets, robbed of that sweet, sweet playoff drama. Brennan, however, just kept plugging away, his scorecard looking less like a thrilling adventure and more like a very sensible grocery list. Pars, birdies, no fuss.
This is Brennan's first PGA Tour win, which is pretty darn neat. Turns out those times he almost won weren't just him practicing his dramatic pauses. I bet that trophy is going to look great on his mantelpiece, a shiny reminder that sometimes, just having a plan and sticking to it (unlike me, who usually gets distracted by squirrels) actually works.
